Two Canadian women are facing life in prison in Australia after the police found more than $22 million worth of cocaine stashed in their suitcases. Isabelle Lagace and Melina Roberge are both from Quebec, both in their 20s, and looked like they were living large until they were busted by the authorities.
Over the last two months, Lagace and Roberge have been enjoying the high life on an enormous luxury cruise that takes its 2,000 passengers to places such as Southampton in the UK to Sydney, Australia. Tickets for the MS Sea Princess will run you around $15,000 each, according to VICE.
Upon arriving at their final destination on Sunday, the Australian feds discovered 200 pounds of cocaine tucked in their luggage. The authorities also arrested a 63-year-old named Andre Jorge Tamine's who was in possession of the drug and is from Quebec as well. No word yet as to how Tamine and the two women may be connected. If found guilty, the three of them are facing life in prison after being charged with importing a commercial quantity of cocaine.
Before getting nabbed by the police, the two women chronicled their lavish journey on social media. Instagram and Facebook photos show Lagace and Roberge living it up in Times Square New York, treating themselves to Irish coffees in Ireland, and drinking out of coconuts in French Polynesia.
The drug bust was the biggest one ever in Australia's history. Prior to the time the cruise docked in Sydney, the Canada Border Services Agency and the US Department of Homeland Security Investigations were in contact with the Australians.
Seizures of cocaine have skyrocketed in the past few years in Australia as the prices are five times higher for the drug there than it is in places like Canada.
