The Big Bang Theory brought some intense emotion in the Monday night's episode "The Dependence Transcendance." While the moment might have been uncharacteristically heavy for CBS' flagship comedy, it was beautifully delivered given what is going down in the lives of some of our favorite TV characters.

"Every girl dreams about being a mom," Bernadette says to Raj. "Sometimes you think you're never going to have kids, and one day you wake up and you're pregnant, and it doesn't matter that your career's going great right now."

In an effort to help Bernadette get excited about the unborn baby, Raj suggested that they go pick out a nursery color or theme. However, this did not work.

"I don't care what color the room is," Bernadette shouts. "Just drop it!"

Several scenes later, Bernadette delved into what was really bothering her about the whole ordeal. "Raj, it's my baby," she says. "I should care about nurseries and colors, and I don't. What's wrong with me? I'm waiting to feel excited, but it's not happening. What if it never happens?"

Then, Raj calls up his OBGYN father to responds to Bernadette's concerns with this advice: "Some people are baby people. Some people are not baby people. Doesn't mean you won't love your baby. Being excited isn't a guarantee of anything."

It was a tender moment that assauged Bernadette's fears and served as a special bonding experience in her and Raj's friendship.

While Bernadette's feelings aren't uncommon to many pregnant women, it is quite rare to see such an emotional topic being discussed on a sitcom. This raw, intense scene is rarely the kind we see on network television, especially on a comedy series like Big Bang. Anyway, kudos to actress Melissa Rauch for portraying these difficult emotions in such an honest way.
