The MTV Video Music Awards has tapped "Major Key" artist DJ Khaled to host the pre-show prior to the main show on Sunday. MTV released a hilarious video starring DJ Khaled himself to promote the pre-show, and you need to see it.
In the video, a shirtless DJ Khaled is talking about the VMA awards, even though he claims "they don't want him to talk about the VMA awards." As Khaled frolics around in a pool, rides around on a jetski, and gets a massage; he addresses the camera saying that the event will be "iconic," "unapologetic," and "historic."
DJ Khaled will host the pre-show alongside Charlamagne Tha God and "Wonderland" host Lizzo from the red carpet at New York's Madison Square Garden. The hour long pre-show broadcast will feature performances from breakout stars including Alessia Cara, Jidenna, and Lukas Graham.
For this year's VMA awards, MTV is pulling out all the stops as there will be performances by Nick Jonas, Future, and VMA icon Britney Spears. There will also be a special tribute to "Needed Me" singer Rihanna as she will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the event. Leading in nominations are Adele and Beyoncé with 8 and 7 nominations, respectively.
The video of the year honors will be a battle between Beyoncé's "Formation," Drake's "Hotline Bling," Justin Bieber's "Sorry," and Kanye West's highly controversial video for his song "Famous."
The MTV Video Music Awards Pre-show begins at 8 p.m. ET with the Awards ceremony following at 9 p.m. ET.
