Kurupt has dealt with tragedy previously. He was in a long-term relationship with Natina Reed, rapper and member of the R&B/pop trio Blaque. The two share a son, Tren, and were engaged to be married. In 2012, Reed died after being struck by a car in Atlanta.

Reed was just days shy of her 33rd birthday. She and her group members were founded by TLC rapper, Lisa โ€œLeft Eyeโ€ Lopes. Gwinnett County police reported at the time that the driver who hit Reed didnโ€™t appear at fault and was not expected to face any charges. Reed was said to be standing in a roadway at the time of the accident.

Contrary to early reports that Reedโ€™s death was the result of a hit-and-run, police confirmed to TMZ the driver of the vehicle stopped and called 911 at 10:30 PM, while a passenger in the car performed CPR on Reed.  She was pronounced dead at 10:59 PM upon arrival at a local hospital.

At the time of Reedโ€™s death, Kurupt shared with MTV News his appreciation for the outpour of love. “Myself and Tren, Natina’s son, would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this tragic time,” he said. “This is a tremendous loss to our family. Natina was a great person and I wish everyone had the opportunity to meet her and know her as I did.”
