Stephen King's It is one of the most highly anticipated horror films of the year based on fan reactions from its creepy trailers and freaky new interpretation of Pennywise The Clown, played by Bill Skarsgård.
The film is expected to break box office records on its opening weekend, which starts Friday, Sept. 8. Based on the research, It could possibly bring in $50 million or more in its first weekend.
The plot of the 2017 film features a group of bullied kids who gather together to fight a monster, who takes appearance of a clown and begins hunting young children.
Because of its popularity, studios will often do advanced research at movie theaters to gauge both awareness of a film and likelihood of whether or not patrons surveyed will go see the movie.
Since the release of It may be the biggest horror event of the year, the film was recently granted special IMAX presentations at select theaters, an accomplishment rarely earned by R-rated horror films.
Fans who were given the opportunity to see the film prior to its release date have taken to Twitter to react. Read below to see what early viewers had to say.
Internet Reacts to Bill Skarsgård's Performance
Tim Curry set the standard for his performance as Pennywise. The image of him as the creepy clown haunted people for decades to follow, until now.
It audiences have been introduced to a new version of the clown played by Skarsgård, and people are impressed.
King has previously said that he "didn't want to go the road of Tim Curry" with the new film. He said Skarsgård had the balance of childish and sweet demeanor, but was also able to show that something was very off with the character.
Based on Twitter's reaction, viewers of the film agree with King's decision.
"Bill Skarsgard is darkly funny, hypnotically scary, and has created the definitive on-screen Pennywise," one viewer wrote.
Another tweet read, "Bill Skarsgard is putting in a performance that is going to turn him into the Freddy Krueger of a new generation."
While one wrote, "Skarsgard nails Pennywise."prevnext
