New 'Cult of Chucky' Images Hint at Big Changes for the Killer Doll

The latest film in the Child's Play franchise aims to be the biggest and best yet, featuring a wide variety of stars from the franchise coming together for the epic installment. A new image from the film might have just revealed that the film will go to places never before seen in any previous installments, as pointed out by Bloody Disgusting.

If you look closely at the killer doll's right hand, you'll notice that it looks almost like a claw, as compared to his left hand, which more closely resembles that of a child's toy. Considering how well-crafted the doll appears to be, we doubt this is any kind of accidental detail on the killer's sculpt, which signals potential big changes for the character.

Chucky has been subjected to all manner of torture throughout the series, being cut, shot, sliced, grinded, and burned in a variety of ways. Through all of that, Chucky still maintains the inner workings of a doll, consisting of plastic, metal, and fabric.

The photo above appears to be a transition into some other entity or being, which would be a first for the killer in the franchise.

The film's synopsis is as follows:

"Cult of Chucky will catch up with Nica (Fiona Dourif) at an asylum for the criminally insane where she has been confined for the past four years and is erroneously convinced that she, not Chucky, murdered her entire family. But when Nica's psychiatrist introduces a new therapeutic 'tool' to facilitate his patients' group sessions — an all-too-familiar 'Good Guy' doll with an innocently smiling face — a string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn't crazy after all. Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent), Chucky's now-grown-up nemesis from the original Child's Play, races to Nica's aid. But to save her he'll have to get past Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly), Chucky's long-ago bride, who will do anything, no matter how deadly or depraved, to help her beloved devil doll."

The film is written and directed by Don Mancini, who has written every single installment in the franchise, allowing the sequels to stay true to the creator's original vision for the mythology.

Although recent installments haven't been granted a theatrical release, the series remains incredibly popular, as it's both a parody of typical slasher films while also being competent installments of the genre.

Much like Mancini, Brad Dourif has been an integral part of the franchise, voicing the killer doll for all seven installments.

Cult of Chucky lands on unrated Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital platforms on October 3.
