The Top 5 Movies Coming to Netflix in June

Today we got our look at the titles coming to Netflix in June – and there’s a lot in the lineup that will be great to kick off those long hours of summer chilling.

While TV show reruns and Netflix original series offer fans hours upon hours of viewing entertainment, there’s nothing quite like the experience of watching a feature film. To that end, we’ve combed through the full list of Netflix titles and selected the films that we think are most worth you viewing time.

Honorable Mention: Catwoman (2004)*

Available June 1st

That asterisk above is there because this is definitely not one of the best movies available on Netflix in June. In fact, the Halle Berry Catwoman movie should never, ever, be mentioned as the “best movie” in any context. 

So why is Catwoman on our list at all? Because it’s definitely one of those “so bad it’s good” viewing experiences. 

Seriously, if you’re of age, grabbing a few drinks, fire up Catwoman, and drink every time something happens that makes your eyes roll. You’ll be nicely buzzed and/or dizzy by the time the end credits roll. 

Full Metal Jacket

Available June 1st

Stanley Kubrick’s Vietnam War film is still haunting us to this very day – and with good reason. Full Metal Jacket makes the process of training for war almost as (if not more) horrific than the war itself, as Kubrick examines in unflinching and dark details, the process of breaking down men, and replacing them with soldiers. 

If you’ve never seen this classic film – or forget just how powerful it is, then this is a perfect time to remind yourself. 

Rounders

Available June 1st

This cult-classic drama/thriller follows a former card shark (Matt Damon) who gets pulled back into the life, after a troublesome former partner (Ed Norton) gets out of prison and comes looking for a chance to get back to old times. 

This a movie that helped push Matt Damon and Ed Norton to bigger phases of their career. Besides those two great actors sharing the screen, acting icons like John Malkovich, John Turturro, and Martin Landau hold down key roles. 

If you’ve never seen Rounders and are a big fan of Damon and/or Norton, then do yourself a favor and get into your que. 

The Sixth Sense

Available June 1st

“I’m ready to tell you my secret…” 

This is the movie that launched M. Night Shyamalan’s career, and forever changed the form and structure of movies thereafter. Before The Sitxth Sense, movies were about the journey and the viewing experience; after the Sixth Sense, most films now hang on Shyamalan-style twists. 

Regardless of its legacy, The Sixth Sense is nonetheless a great watch – even when you know the big secret beforehand. 

Zodiac

Available on June 1st

David Fincher is known for big films like Fight Club or The Social Network – but he’s also made some great, cult-hit films, as well. 

One of the more overlooked (and underappreciated) movies on Fincher’s filmography is Zodiac. Based on the real life late ’60s /early ’70s San Francisco police investigation into the Zodiac Killer, Fincher’s film brings together top-notch acting talent like Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey Jr., and Mark Ruffalo, for a haunting and atmospheric Noir-style crime film. 

Some viewers take issue with the slow-burn pace, or frustrating (non-)resolution of the case – but real life is rarely as neat as the movies. Which is, in part, the message Fincher tries to convey. 

If you’re looking for some quality cinema frights, Zodiac is your pick. 

Disney’s Moana

Available June 20th

Disney gave kids all over the world a taste of Polynesian culture with this latest princess tale. 

Featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and newcomer Auli’i Cravalho as the titular Moana, this awesome island adventure sees the young girl set sail to save her dying island home, only to get caught up in the struggle for ancient artifact the gods used to fight over. Along the way, she picks up a shapeshifting demigod named Maui (Johnson), who wants the artifact for his own reasons. 

Basically, Moana is arriving on Netflix to help parents everywhere by an hour or so of peace while the little ones enjoy this latest Disney adventure all over again.
