Just in case you need another reminder to lather on sunscreen this summer, we've got a horrific precautionary tale for you. Julie Nisbet ran a 69-mile mega-marathon last Saturday, coast-to-coast across England along Hadrian's Wall — quite the impressive feat! The only thing is, she never reapplied sunscreen to the back of her legs, and over the course of the 21-hour ultra run, the sun did some serious damage to the back of her legs.

According to Daily Mail, the severe burns on her calves developed small sacs of pus after Nisbet finishing the race. The 34-year-old mom of two covered her legs in bandages and went to the hospital — but the sacs only got bigger and more painful.

"I was wearing sun cream at the start of the race but hadn't reapplied," Nisbet said. "Sweat and water had pretty much got rid of what I had on the backs of my legs."

A week later, she's still in "agony."

"My legs are screwed. Not because of the running, but damn sunburn. Utterly devastated," she wrote on Twitter after the race, adding the hashtags #agony and #painful.

She later wrote that her sunburn has completely overshadowed her achievement of finishing a 69-mile marathon.

"The joy I've felt at completing this ultra is now being overlooked by the agony I'm in with the burns. Sobbing like a baby," she said.

At first, she used hashtags like #idiot and #sad when Tweeting about her injury, but eventually she started to see the humor in the situation despite the pain.

If this hasn't taught you to reapply your sunscreen during a race (or even just lounging at the pool) then it's quite possible that nothing will. If you're worried about forgetting or not having time to reapply, just cover up with long sleeves or pants.

This news comes just days after a 20-year-old Scottish man shared photos of gruesome second-degree burns after being in the sun for seven hours.

Stay safe out there, people! Reapply your sunscreen every two hours (or sooner if you can feel your skin start to burn.)
