“Nothing and no one stays the same,” she said. “Grow, evolve, change with each other and celebrate your love’s journey [is something I learned].”
Cyrus’ parents have had their share of difficulties. Though they are together now, they filed for divorce twice, with the “Achy Breaky Heart” crooner filing in 2010, but dropping it just months later in 2011. Meanwhile, Cyrus’ mother, Tish filed for divorce in 2013, but called it off with the two deciding to make it work.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Billy Ray opened up about his marriage, revealing, “It’s like everything in life.”
“You take it one step at a time,” he said. “One day at a time. I think one of the most important things in life and in a relationship is you make adjustments.”
While adjustments are an important aspect to a healthy, loving relationship, the 24-year-old shares she also understands the value of family more so thanks to her loving parents and godmother, Dolly Parton.
Cyrus goes on to tell Cosmopolitan that having Parton as her godmother is a reminder that family is what’s important at the end of the day.
“Seriously, watching the way she treats people with love and respect,” the 24-year-old said. “[It proves] never let success change your heart.”
