She was initially found “unconscious and unresponsive” around 8 a.m. When EMS providers made it to her apartment, she was immediately pronounced dead.

There was no autopsy ordered, as her family objected for religious reasons. Since foul play was not suspected, NYC medical examiners did not overrule their wishes. However, a toxicology report has finally revealed why she passed away.

According to the New York City medical examiner’s office, Trachtenberg died a natural death from complications of diabetes. The city revealed the news earlier today.

Trachtenberg’s first roles were as a child on various Nickelodeon shows, like Harriet the Spy and The Adventures of Pete & Pete.

She rose to fame for her role as Dawn in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, where she starred from 2000 to 2003.

She gained even more acclaim for her role as Georgina Sparks on Gossip Girl for most of its run. In her last major role, she reprised her role as Georgina in HBO’s 2023 Gossip Girl reboot.

Plenty of major Hollywood stars mourned her death publicly, including her Buffy castmate Sarah Michelle Gellar.
