Woods was charged with DUI on Monday, May 29, in Jupiter, Florida.
The 41-year-old PGA star was taken into custody around 3 a.m. ET and later released at 10:50 a.m., according to ESPN. He was pulled over on Military Trail South of Indian Creek Parkway.
Woods’ mug shotย surfaced on the internet and the image shows him looking disheveled with heavy eyes and a scruffy beard.
Woods had recently underwent a fusion surgery on his back in April. The procedure was the fourth surgery he’s had on his back since the spring of 2014.
His booking sheet stated that he had an unlawful blood alcohol level.ย He was reportedly asleep at the wheel when he was found by police.
Authoritiesย found Woodsย early in the morning on the side of the road alone and wearing hisย seatbeltย insideย his 2015 Mercedes-Benz, which was running and had its brake lights illuminated and right turn signal flashing, the arrest report states.
The report adds that the 41-year-old athlete’s speech was slow and slurred, and his behavior was described asย “cooperative” but “confused.” Woodsย registeredย a 0.000 on a breathalyzer test and took a urine test, although he failed a field sobriety test.
He reportedly told police he was returning from golfing inย Losย Angelesย and didn’t know where he was when he awoke.
Tiger Woods Speaks Out
Woods brokeย his silence shortly after getting arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Florida.
The professional golfer addressed the arrestย and blamed an “unexpected reaction to prescribed medications” as the reason for the events that took place.
“I understand the severity of what I did and I take full responsibility for my actions. I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved. What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly.”
He continued, “I would like to apologize with all my heart to my family, friends and the fans. I expect more from myself too. I will do everything in my power to ensure this never happens again.”
Woods also thanked the police officers that were present during his arrest. “I fully cooperated with law enforcement, and I would like to personally thank the representatives of the Jupiter Police Department and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office for their professionalism.”
After his arrest, Woods announced he was seeking treatment and later agreed to a plea deal with prosecutors to enter a DUI diversion program. The program will mean Woods gets 12 months of probation and he is required to complete DUI education classes.
Tiger Woods’ Damaged Car
The vehicle thatย Woodsย was driving when he wasย arrestedย had two flat tires and other “fresh damage” when the cops foundย himย asleep at the wheel.
Documents revealed that both tire rims on the driver’s side of Woods’ $222k Mercedes had small but visible damage.
According to hisย DUIย arrest report, theย 41-year-oldย PGAย starย had “extremely slow and slurred speech,” and did not know where he was when the police awoke him.
“I asked Woods where he was going to which he stated he did not know, he just likes to drive,” the arresting officer wrote in the affidavit.
“Woods had changed the story of where he was going and where he was coming from,” the report states.
Even after the police approached Woods, he still wasn’t able to stay awake.
One of the other policemen on the scene wrote, “The driver fell asleep with his eyes closed and his head up against the headrest.”
When Woods got out of the car, he was “swaying and nearly lost his balance.”
The athlete bent over to tie his shoes, and “nearly lost his balance” when putting his foot on the car.
“I asked Woods if he wished to take off his shoes,” the officer wrote. “Woods removed his shoes and left themย underย the front end of my patrol vehicle.”
The cops then conducted a sobriety test in which they asked himย to recite the alphabetย backwards. He instead offered to “recite the entire national anthemย backwards.”
“When asked if he understood the directions he stated, ‘yes, recite the entire national anthemย backwards,’” the report said. “After several times of explaining theย instructionsย he completed the task correctly.”
