In this past week’s episode, “Eastwatch,” Bronn (Jerome Flynn) saved Sir Jaime Lannister from both a fiery dragon death and a watery grave. However, Bronn’s streak of unlikely luck playing “The Great Game” may have run out, when he accepted a proposal from his former boss, Tyrion, to set up a meeting between Tyrion and Jaime, in the bowels of The Red Keep.
Even though Jaime and Tyrion had an amicable conversation, Cersei doesn’t seem that intent on forgiving Bronn for (what she sees) as a significant betrayal. Speaking with Jaime after the Lannister brother reunion, Cersei let it be known that she was aware of the meeting, and that there would need to be consequences for Bronn.
Specifically, Cersei asked Jaime “Are you going to punish him?” And when Jaime was confused about the question, Cersei added, “Bronn. He betrayed you. He set up a meeting without your knowledge or consent.“
Jaime looked ambivalent about the prospect of doing harm to Bronn for such a trivial reason – but Jaime’s mercy has never really mattered much when it comes to curbing Cersei’s vengeful fury. And after Jaime let Lady Olenna escape into a painless death while gloating about killing Joffrey, Cersei is probably going to be handling matters of discipline for them both from now on.
In other words: Sir Bronn should keep his head down… if he wants to keep it.
Game of Thrones Season 7 continues with Episode 6 next Sunday @ 9/8c on HBO.
