According to TMZ, Creole stabbed a homeless man in the chest twice and then again once in the head.

The homeless man, who was identified as John Jolly, reportedly called the 57-year-old rapper a gay slur and that is when he allegedly reacted violently.

Jolly died of his injuries at Bellevue Hospital in New York.

It’s also reported that the police used footage from surveillance cameras to identify Creole as the suspect in the crime.

The Kid Creole was a member of groundbreaking rap group Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.

In addition to Grandmaster Flash and Creole, the group included Melle Mel, The Keith Cowboy, Mr. Ness/Scorpio, and Rahiem.

Their biggest single is considered to be “The Message,” which was released in 1982. It is often referred to as one of the greatest hip-hop songs of all-time.

After disbanding in the mid-’80s the group split into two parts before briefly reuniting in 1987.

In 2005, the groups legacy was acknowledged at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors, and in 2007 they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The historical archives at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. displays vinyl records and a turntable that was used by DJ Grandmaster Flash.

The group continues to perform today as Grandmaster’s Furious Five with the only original remaining members being Melle Mel and Scorpio.
