The entertainment world has been rocked by the passing of George A. Romero, and now the legendary director’s manager has released an official statement on his death.

In a Facebook post, Chris Roe, Romero’s manager, said, “Legendary filmmaker George A. Romero passed away on Sunday July 16, listening to the score of The Quiet Man, one of his all-time favorite films, with his wife, Suzanne Desrocher Romero, and daughter, Tina Romero at his side.”

The statement continued, “He died peacefully in his sleep, following a brief but aggressive battle with lung cancer, and leaves behind a loving family, many friends, and a filmmaking legacy that has endured, and will continue to endure, the test of time.”

Lastly, Roe wrote, “The family asks for their privacy to be respected at this time.”

As reported, Romero’s producing partner Peter confirmed earlier today, that the Dawn of the Dead director had died.

After news of his passing got out, many celebs took to social media to express their sympathy.

Hostel director Eli Roth tweeted, “Just heard the news about George Romero. Hard to quantify how much he inspired me & what he did for cinema. Condolences to his family.”

One of the stars if iZombie, Rahul Kohliโ€, wrote, “Damn…rest in peace, George Romero. Every single zombie show/film owes you their gratitude for paving the way in this genre. Thank you.”

Lastly, Walking Dead producer Greg Nicotero took to Instagram to share his feelings.

He posted, “The sad news keeps rolling in. There are so many things to say about this man, my friend, my mentor and my inspiration. For what he gave us all with passion and fire, his unrelenting spirit will live forever. Blessed that I was honored to present him this award late April in Pittsburgh where IT ALL F—ING STARTED!!!! Never ending love to him and his family.”
