With a variety of streaming services being available in virtually every household, many viewers often forget that catalogs of what’s available are subject to change. With Netflix having recently removed a large chunk of Futurama episodes from its service, fans are responding in the best way; with Futurama GIFS and videos.

Titles come and go for a variety of reasons on the streaming service, with some titles remaining available for years, while other movies and TV shows might only be available for a few months.

Fans had seemingly grown accustomed to having any episode of Futurama instantly at their fingertips, so when their options became limited, the reactions were angry and passionate.

Originally premiering in 1999, the series came from Simpsons mastermind Matt Groening. The show aired on Sunday nights as a complement to The Simpsons, but sadly, never quite achieved the same amount of success. Production on the show ceased in 2003.

Cartoon Network purchased the rights to air the show in syndication, which resulted in growing the show’s fanbase, despite no new episodes being made. In 2007, four direct-to-video movies were ordered, with Comedy Central taking over broadcast rights, agreeing to show the four films in 30-minute installments.

Thanks to the popularity of the syndicated episodes and four feature-length films, Futurama was revived for all-new episodes to air on Comedy Central.

Another popular response to the removal of episodes from Netflix is posting a video that accompanied the DVD release of Bender’s Game, the straight-to-video movie.

The promo on the DVD parodied a popular anti-piracy PSA from the time, which presumed that all types of crime were illegal, comparing the downloading of a movie to stealing a car.

Considering the time at which Futurama aired, the show ended up being full of interesting takes on the growth of the internet and piracy, including this prophetic image from the opening of an episode in the show’s second season.

Much like what Groening achieved with The Simpsons, Futurama has become full of hilarious non-sequiturs that can be used in a variety of situations, with only the most devout fans picking up on the references.

Although Netflix might have removed the first five season of the series, every single episode is currently available through a variety of physical media formats, allowing you to watch any episode whenever you want.
