James Bond Actors, Producers Pay Tribute To Roger Moore

Roger Moore died at the age of 89 on Monday, and fans have been mourning the lose of the revered actor ever since. While numerous celebrities chimed in on the passing on Tuesday morning, several 007 actors and producers of the James Bond films have shared their thoughts.

Moore played the international man of mystery from 1973 to 1985. That run encompassed some of the series’ greatest films, such as The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun and Octopussy.

The current Bond actor, Daniel Craig, shared his brief thoughts on Moore through the official James Bond Twitter account.

He wrote “Nobody Does It Better,” which is a reference to the theme song of The Spy Who Loved Me. Along with the note, Craig shared a photo of the two together.

Pierce Brosnan, the other modern Bond, shared his own thoughts on the late actor, who died after a short battle with cancer. Like Craig, he shared a photo of the two together during Brosnan’s run as 007.

“Dear Sir Roger Moore, It is indeed with a heavy heart that I hear the news of your passing this morning,” he wrote. “You were a big part of my life, from The Saint to James Bond.. .you were a magnificent James Bond and one that lead the way for me, the world will miss you and your unique sense of humor for years to come.”

He added, “My sincerest condolences to your family and children.”

George Lazenby, who played Bond in 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, issued a statement in memory of the actor, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“I liked Roger, he was a genuine fellow, a really good guy,” Lazenby said.

Besides the series’ lead actors, the minds behind the films also chimed in with statements.

Producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, who are behind the modern Bond films, issued a joint statement about their admiration for the longest running Bond actor.

“On the screen, he reinvented the role of James Bond with tremendous skill, charisma and humor,” the statement said. “In real life, he was a genuine hero working as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for many years dedicating his life to alleviating the suffering of children all over the world. 

“He was a loyal and beloved friend and his legacy shall live on through his films and the millions of lives he touched. We shall miss him enormously. Our love and thoughts are with Deborah, Geoffrey, Christian his grandchildren and his wife Kristina.”

Even the estate of Ian Fleming, the late writer behind the Bond novels, paid tribute to Moore.

“We are saddened to hear of the passing of Sir Roger Moore, who brought joy to so many with his portrayal of Bond & his sterling UNICEF work,” the representatives said.

Numerous celebrities including Edgar Wright, James Wan and Piers Morgan previously issued statements about the unexpected passing.
