Business is about to pick up in the WWE.

According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, WWE is changing their plans for the main event to SummerSlam. Braun Strowman, who has been penciled in as Reigns opponent for months, has been bumped and the new main event for SummerSlam is now scheduled to be Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns.

The change in the match probably does not come as a huge surprise, as Roman Reigns announced himself as the number one contender to the Universal Title at SummerSlam only two weeks ago on Raw. Braun Strowman’s return left the match in doubt as he set up an Ambulance Match with Reigns at Great Balls of Fire. If Strowman were to win the Ambulance Match, this would prove Meltzer’s report to be false, however as of now, Reigns is set to win the bout.

The decision to put Reigns in the SummerSlam main event instead of Strowman has ramifications far past this summer’s plans. Not only could this end Brock Lesnar’s Universal Championship run early, but it could completely change the original plans for WrestleMania 34’s main event.

As soon as WrestleMania 33 ended, the rumor was for Roman Reigns to fight Brock Lesnar exactly one year later in New Orleans. Lesnar was supposed to go on a year long run resulting in Roman’s ultimate culmination at WrestleMania 34. While fans have been lukewarm on the idea of Roman getting yet another ‘overcoming the odds’ storyline, they have likely been even more unhappy with already knowing what is going to happen a year later.

The blessing and curse of being a modern wrestling fan is that we know almost everything that is going to happen before it happen. We can’t help ourselves but to check the dirt sheets and stories like this very one to find out what’s going to happen, yet we still want to be surprised.

It’s now being rumored that John Cena’s ‘free agent’ designation is all being done to set up for a Roman vs Cena program at ‘Mania for the Universal Championship. As of today, WWE could not draw up a bigger match. Throw in the ramifications of John Cena chasing his record breaking 17th World Championship or metaphorically handing over the WWE to Reigns after the match and now we have astronomical implications.
