Alexa Bliss has been WWE's success story of 2017. Overshadowed by Sasha Banks, Charlotte, Bayley and Becky Lynch, few saw Bliss coming.
But now she's at the top of women's wrestling being the first ever SmackDown and RAW Women's champion. How did an unsung prospect like Bliss explode onto WWE's main event?
She can talk.

Alexa Bliss is arguably the best promo in the entire company. Her insults could cut glass and her disgusted facial expressions could shrink even the most self-assured. Bliss is so good at running people down on the microphone, one could make the argument that she more or less made Bayley disappear.
But, ironically enough, the idea of talking in front of an arena full of fans terrified Bliss. In a recent interview with Newshub, Bliss admitted that when she first started in WWE, promo class was cause for some highly uncomfortable moments:
"I would have anxiety over our promo classes and I would panic and I was just terrible on the microphone. But the fact we had classes every week, I was able to gain in confidence and learn how to speak in front of an audience; be it 500, 5000 or 50,000. Our promo coach was WWE legend, the late Dusty Rhodes and he would talk about trying new things and getting out of our comfort zone. He was a huge influence for me."

Amazing how something Bliss perceived as her most glaring weakness has evolved into her most deadly weapon. Bliss' unforeseen ascent is a testament to the fundamentals of wrestling. It takes way more than muscles and pyrotechnics to be a great wrestler. The quickest way-way to fan's heart is through the microphone. It's all one big soap opera, anyways, right?
Props to Bliss for grabbing Vince McMahon's proverbial brass ring. Things are about to get interesting for the RAW Women's Champion as we just found out her next challenger will be Sasha Banks. This has potential to be an era-defining feud as Sasha Banks is re-entering the title scene for the first time since WrestleMania. The hype behind Great Balls of Fire continues to grow. Stay tuned, folks.
