The Big Bang Theory spin-off Young Sheldon has landed Annie Potts as its latest cast member.
Potts, who’s best known for her roles in Ghostbusters and Pretty in Pink, will be playing a key familial role in Sheldon’s (Iain Armitage) life: his grandma.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Potts’ “Meemaw” character is described as a “foul-mouthed, hard-drinking Texas grandmother” that is supportive of Sheldon, despite his many quirks.
Meemaw has been name-dropped several time throughout The Big Bang Theory and was played by June Squibb in season nine. She is the mother of Sheldon’s mom Mary (Zoe Perry).

Potts is best known as Janine Melnitz in Ghostbusters and Iona in Pretty in Pink. She also voiced Bo Peep in Toy Story. More recently, she’s appeared on the TV shows Chicago Med, GCB and The Fosters.
Other confirmed cast members on Young Sheldon include Lance Barber (The Comeback), Raegan Revord (Modern Family), and Montana Jordan (The Legacy of Whitetail Deer Hunter).
Young Sheldon premieres Sept. 25 at 8:30/7:30c on CBS.
