A Miami Vice reboot is in the works at NBC with Fast & Furious duo, Vin Diesel and Chris Morgan producing.
The remake of the iconic 1980s action drama will be written by Peter Macmanus (The Mist, Satisfaction) and produced by Diesel’s One Race TV, Chris Morgan Productions, and Universal Television, according to Deadline.

Diesel, 50, reportedly went to NBC with the idea to revive the show. Sources told THR that he made a personal appeal to Jennifer Salke, the NBC Entertainment president. If the show gets the green light, it will be Diesel’s largest scripted TV project so far.
The original series starred Don Johnson as James “Sonny” Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas as Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs. The two portrayed Metro-Dade Police Department detectives that worked undercover in Miami.
The show, which was created by Anthony Yerkovich and executive produced by Michael Mann, ran for five seasons on NBC from 1984-1989 and quickly became a cultural phenomenon.
Unlike many standard police procedural shows of the time, Miami Vice integrated the New Wave culture of the ’80s and became noted for its use of visual effects and music.
Other stars of the original series included Saundra Santiago, Edward James Olmos, and Michael Talbott. A number of celebrities were tapped for guest spots including Gene Simmons, Pam Grier, Laurence Fishburne, Viggo Mortensen, and John Leguizamo.
The popularity of Miami Vice launched a film adaptation of the series in July of 2006. The movie was directed by Michael Mann and starred Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx as the leads.
