‘Law & Order: SVU’ Promotes Actor to Series Regular

Law & Order: SVU is halfway through its 27th season, but one actor will be seen a lot more.

Deadline reports that Corey Cott has been promoted to series regular.

Cott joined the long-running NBC drama this season in Episode 2 as Detective Jake Griffin. He has friends in high places and was on Benson’s (Mariska Hargitay) radar for quite a while as she kept a close eye on him. However, he’s been proving himself that he belongs on the team, and with Cott’s promotion, it seems like he won’t be leaving any time soon.

His promotion comes after SVU said goodbye to not one but two detectives recently. Juliana Aidén Martinez departed the series as Kate Silva after the Season 26 finale, while Octavio Pisano’s Joe Velasco got a send-off at the beginning of Season 27 as he took a position elsewhere. Additionally, the series brought back Kelli Giddish as Sergeant Amanda Rollins full-time after she left halfway through Season 24. Giddish had returned on several occasions since then, and it was revealed earlier this year that Amanda would officially be coming back to the team.

With Giddish’s return, the budget has been tight, and Ice-T has had to take a step back from some episodes, but there doesn’t seem to be any hard feelings. Now that SVU is promoting Cott, it’s unknown what this means in terms of appearances for other main cast members. At the very least, SVU is continuing to keep fans on the edge of their seats, so whatever happens with any of the characters will surely be interesting.

SVU’s main cast also consists of Ice-T, Peter Scanavino, Kevin Kane, and Aimé Donna Kelly, who was also promoted to series regular prior to the start of Season 27. Meanwhile, the series had its midseason premiere last week and did a crossover with Law & Order. There is no telling what will be in store as the season continues, especially when it comes to Detective Jake Griffin, but fans will be able to look forward to much more. For now, new episodes of Law & Order: SVU air on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC, streaming the next day on Peacock, where the most recent episodes are available to watch.
