In just one episode, Arya and Sansa got revenge on Littlefinger, Jon and Daenerys hooked up, Cersei came up with another evil plan, Jaime broke things off with his twin sister, and the Night King broke through the wall and began his attack on Westeros. Yeah, this finale was jam-packed.
With everything going on, it was easy to miss some of the smaller details hidden within the episode. Not to worry though, we’ve got you covered!
Here are five details you might have missed in “The Dragon and the Wolf”:
Baby on the Way?
While in the dragon pit, Jon and Daenerys talked about the fact that she was destined never to have a child. She revealed to him that the witch who killed Drogoย told her that there was no offspring in her future.
Jon wasn’t buying this, as he pointed out that the woman might not have been the most trustworthy source. This immediately seemed to give Dany a little bit of confidence.
This entire sequence would do nothing but help build a friendship if it wasn’t for another scene later on. Yes, THAT scene.
Jon and Daenerysย getting together already had plenty of implications, but a potential baby is just one more. Jon is the first man who believes that Danyย can have a child, and she’s finally in a place where she’d love to have an heir to the throne.ย
Trust in the Starks
Sansa and Aryaย finally drew close as sisters, bonding over the victory they achieved against Littlefinger and his lies. If you were paying attention though, their final conversation drew more than one parallel to some Stark history.
First, the shot of the two sisters standing in Winterfell is one that we saw in last season’s finale. In that situation, Jon and Sansaย looked out over the north, united for the first time. They finally trusted each other. The shot in this scene aimed to tell the same story.
Secondly, Aryaย told Sansaย something that their father Ned told her long ago. Back in Season 1, Ned told Arya, “In Winter, we must protect ourselves – look after one another. Sansaย is your sister.”
When standing there in Winterfell, Aryaย brings it full circle by telling Sansaย the same thing.
Mystery Solved
Speaking of Arya and Sansa, their little court case against Littlefingerย actually solved one of the bigger mysteries of the series,
Back in Season 1, an assassin tried to murder Bran with a dagger. It was initially blamed on Tyrion, but the blame later fell to the rest of theย Lannisterย family.
During the trial however, it was revealed that the dagger belonged to Littlefinger. He was the one who made a deal with the Lannistersย in order stay on their good side.
It’s pretty easy to solve mysteries when you have a sibling that can actually see the past unfold before his eyes.
The Golden Company
Earlier this season, Cersei talked about hiring The Golden Company, a band of lethal mercenaries from Essos. For a few episodes, the subject was dropped.
However, in the finale, Cerseiย revealed that the swords-for-hire were going to play a much bigger role than just providing her with an army. The Golden Company is Cersei’sย ace in the hole, her plot twist.
When Euronย left the dragon pit, he wasn’t going back home to hole up during the winter, but that’s what Cerseiย wanted Dany and Jon to believe.ย
Instead, Euronย was actually sailing to Essosย to pick up The Golden Company. So when Daenerys and her army think they’re getting help from Cersei’sย men, it will actually be an attack from Euronย and the mercenaries.
Cersei’s Death Foreshadowed
When The Hound brought the wightย to the dragon pit for everyone to see, it immediately charged after Cersei. It was restrained before it could grab her, but there was something worth noting about that moment.
Nobody near Cersei, not even Jaime or The Mountain, moved to try and save her.
Both the man she loves and her personal bodyguard stood by as an undeadย creature was about to attack her. You’d think that they’d want to save their queen, right?
This was a huge deal, because it shows that even those closest to Cerseiย don’t exactly love her. They simply fear her, and that could spell bad news for the queen when the Night King arrives.
