The recent theory that the ghost of Catelyn Stark might have been spotted in a background scene of Game of Thrones has the interest going crazy, but could that theory be debunked?
Perhaps there’s a logical explanation for the character that viewers thought was the Stark matriarch.

Examining the evidence, it’s possible that character walking behind Arya and Brienne as they sparred in “The Spoils of War,” was actually Littlefinger’s spy who was seen in the most recent episode, “Eastwatch.”
The initial theory was fueled by the appearance of a woman who looked a lot like Catelyn, complete with purportedly red hair and a green dress, walking past the archway behind Arya and Brienne as they prepare to engage in some friendly dueling.
It happens so fast that you could potentially miss it. However, less than a minute later she passes behind them on the opposite side, appearing a tad clearer than before.
Fast-forwarding to the most recent episode, “Eastwatch,” one of the main plot drivers was Araya’s mistrust of Littlefinger and subsequent spying on him.
As she watches him speaking with a young peasant girl, the signs start to appear. She’s a slender redheaded woman who wears a greenish colored dress, which is more noticeable as she walks away.
So, is there any “concrete” evidence that this is really what’s going on? The answer to that is, no. There is nothing that officially confirms this to be true.
According to IMDB, the actress seen above is named Adele Smyth-Kennedy, and she is listed in “Eastwatch” as ‘Littlefinger’ Winterfell Spy.
She is not, however, listed as being in the previous episode, which is the one where the theorized Lady Stoneheart (the ghost of Catelyn Stark) appearance takes place. Based on that, it’s possible they are not the same person.
However, considering that this woman has been spying on the Stark girls and that she closely resembles the late Catelyn Stark, it’s also entirely possible that she is the woman in the background during the duel, and that Littlefinger has had her spying on Arya and Sansa longer than fans could have realized.
This theory is not all that outlandish, but there are manyGame of Thrones fan-theories that do cross over into being pretty wild.

Is Hodorย a horse?
This outlandish theory depends on how you interpret the relationship betweenย Lyannaย Stark andย Wylis. As fans will recall,ย Wylisย is the stable boy that Bran fates intoย becoming “Hodor.”
In the flashback scenes that the Three-Eyed-Raven shows Bran,ย Wylisย is fully capable of speaking. However, in the present time of the story,ย Wylisย is mentally damaged and only able to utter the word, “Hodor.”
As a stable boy, some fans suggest thatย Wylisย hadย wargingย abilities himself. The theory suggests thatย Wylisย would inhabitย Lyanna’sย white horse and would enjoy her companionship while galloping around the North.
Some fans are of the belief thatย Wylisย wasย wargedย into a horse that unexpectedly died, leaving onlyย Hodorย behind, a part man, part animal being. This theory tries to offer an explanation as to why Bran is able toย wargย intoย Hodor.
According to the show, this theory has beenย disproven. In fact, the way thatย Wylisย turned intoย Hodorย was much more heartbreaking.
Could Syrio Forel be Jaqen H’ghar?
In Season 1,ย Aryaย Stark began taking sword fighting lessons from an instructor namedย Syrioย Forel. He was presumed dead after being confronted by opposing forces in King’s Landing, but his death was never shown on screen.
Some fans believe this suggests that he could be alive in another form, or perhaps one of the Faceless Men likeย Jaqenย H’ghar.ย Forelย wasย Braavosi. As fans will recall, the Faceless Men are alsoย Braavosi.
Those holding out hope thatย Forelย could beย H’gharย point to the detail that inย Arya’sย training to become “No One,” she can transform intoย anyoneย by wearing any face. The theory thatย Forelย was one of the Faceless Men was essentially squashed afterย Aryaย got revenge for his death by killingย Merynย Trant, who had been beating young prostitute women at the time.
Ifย Forelย wasย H’ghar, he would have likely stoppedย Aryaย from killingย Trantย out of revenge. Or possibly, whenย Aryaย departed the House of Black and White, he would have taken off theย Hgarย mask and revealed himself asย Forel.
Is Daenerys a Time Traveler?
This theory dates back to the second season when the Mother of Dragons,ย Daenerysย Targaryen, and her loyal follower,ย Jorahย Mormont, were in the city ofย Qarth.
Mormontย comes across a mysterious masked woman namedย Quaitheย who drops a series of prophecies onย Mormont.ย Quaitheย never removes the mask, and some fans believe that it could have been a futureย Danyย traveling back in time to give herself andย Jorahย advice as a masked stranger.
In order for this theory to be true though,ย Danyย would have to acquire a skill set that she has not shown an affinity for up to this point. If she were to come in contact with Bran, who has transformed into the Three-Eyed Raven, she might be able to go back and correct some of her mistakes.
As for this theory, it is entirely possible. However, it may be improbable.
Wait…Is Roose Bolton a Vampire?
Even though his bastard son Ramsay (Snow) Bolton planted a dagger in his fatherย Rooseย Bolton’s heart, someย Game of Thronesย theoristsย believeย that the head of House Bolton was actually more than a mere mortal human. Some claim thatย Rooseย was basically inhuman and point to specific passages in the book that support the hypothesis.
As for this particular theory, there is more textual evidence to support it than any of the others on the list. From the way that Martin describesย Roose, he sounds more like a vampire than a human.
“His eyes were curiously pale, almost without color, and his look disturbing,” a passage from Game of Thrones reads.
Inย A Clash of Kings, Martin writes of Bolton: “He had a plain face, beardless and ordinary, notable only for his queer pale eyes. Neither plump, thin, nor muscular, … Only his eyes moved; they were very pale, the color of ice.”
Rooseย barely eats and smells weird. There are also lines in the book that describe him mopping up blood from his rare meat with bread, according toย Thrillist.
This theory is unlikely though. However, the most unfortunate aspect of this theory is that it is bothย unprovableย andย undisprovableย at the same time.
Did Robert Baratheon Actually Die?
King Robertย Baratheonย was killed after being gored by a boar while hunting. At least that’s what viewers have been led to believe. Despite appearances, some fans think that he could actually be alive.
This theory holds more credence for those who read the book. In the novels, Martin writes from multiple different characterย viewpoints. He discusses the situation surrounding Robert’s death, but no one actually sees his body or attends his funeral firsthand.
In season 3 of the show, viewers learn that Robert was not buried in the Sept ofย Baelorย in King’s Landing. He was actually sent to Storm’s End. This another occasion in which Robert’s death is mentioned in aย secondhandย account.
Considering that there was no body and no firsthand account of Robert’s death, it means that Robert technically could still be alive. Book readers think that he could be actively contributing to the storyline as Strongย Belwas, a character that never introduced into the show.
