A new documentary about Formula 1 is set to air on CNBC. On Tuesday, the network announced Inside Track: The Business of Formula 1 will premiere on Thursday, Nov. 16, just ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The documentary, reported by Sara Eisen, will take a deep dive into how the motorsports league has achieved rapid growth in attendance, viewership and market value while examining its future.ย
As the synopsis states, Eisen “travels to some of Formula 1’s most iconic races, explores the strategy behind its expansion in the U.S., and examines the role of brand-name sponsors, including the Haas team’s title partner MoneyGram. She also looks at what’s in store for the sport’s future โ including a new racing league for female drivers called F1 Academy, and the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix to be held in November 2023.”

“This is a true passion project for me, and I am so excited to give the CNBC audience and Formula 1 fans alike a closer look at the business of this global phenomenon โ one that stands firmly at the intersection of sports, technology and culture,” Eisen said in a statement. “I was initially drawn to F1 because my two young children love the sport, but once we started watching the races together, I realized there was something undeniably fascinating from a business perspective that demanded a full exploration of the sport as it reaches new heights in America.”ย ย
The Last Vegas Grand Prix is set to take place on Saturday, Nov. 18 on a temporary street circuit on the Las Vegas Strip. This will be the first time Formula 1 will have a race in Las Vegas since the Caesars Palace Grand Prix in 1982. It will also be the third Formula 1 race in the United States this season.ย
“The Las Vegas Grand Prix is going to take F1 race weekends to the next level,” Formula 1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali said in a statement last year. “Staging a Grand Prix in the sports and entertainment capital of the world has allowed us to plan a truly spectacular celebration that has never been seen in our sport before, in the greatest arena on earth. The entire city is buzzing with excitement for next year’s race. We are truly overwhelmed by the response on our pre-registration portal and the donations received.”
