Now, the sixth season is a few weeks away and showrunner Derek Haas is opening up about the upcoming episodes.

Haas previously described the events of the premiere episode, which will determine which characters live or die after the dramatic call that left so many in danger.

“We’re going to pick up with the events that closed out season five. We’re going to start just moments after what you saw. After fade out, we’re going to fade back in on the same scene and we’re going to play out the event. I don’t give away spoilers because there’s a lot of things happening and a lot of people in jeopardy.

“Those events will play out over the teaser and then when we come back, we are going to do a time jump of a couple of months to a. to line us more up with summer and b. to get intoโ€ฆ the way I always pitch it is, we’re not doing the 23rd episode of season five, we’re launching season six and hopefully launching it out of a canon so then we’re going to go right into season six.”

During an interview with Yahoo, Haas spoke about more details from the upcoming sixth season of Chicago Fire.

What’s Coming on This Season?

Loyalties will be tested within Firehouse 51 as a new character comes in and stirs up drama from the inside.

Although he didn’t name what character will cause issues, he previously announced that Eloise Mumford, most notably known for her role in Fifty Shades of Grey as Kate Kavanagh, will join the fire department.

“Right now, we’re more shrinking and focusing on the cast we have,” Haas stated. “Eloiseย Mumfordย is probably the biggest [new] person we have as she’s looking for a place to land and really likes Firehouse 51. We will have a guest chief coming in for a little bit, for two episodes. A younger guy. We usually bring in chiefs that are the opposite ofย Bodenย so he’s not going to be an exception. It’s not like we’re bringing in a young, newย firefighterย to come in and fillย anybody’sย spot.”

Haas also revealed that Dawson is going to get a showcase episode that will feature her trapped in a collapse, off-duty, with no one near by to help.

Another Guest Star Announcement

Joe Cruz’s (Joe Minoso)ย brother, Leon, returns.

Jeff Lima, who plays Leon, is back in Chicago after running out of town to avoid gang violence. Haas revealed that this character is returning, but under very different circumstances.

Fans will remember Cruz’s brother from the earlier seasons of the series, and his role caused major issues for the fireman.ย

Leon got himself in to trouble during season two when he went undercover to take down the head of a gang after a young girl was murdered in his neighborhood.

After his mission, Leon was sent away for his own safety.

Details on Kelly Severide’s Personal Life

Just like Chicago P.D., Chicago Fire will dig deeper into one character’s personal life.

Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) is known to have a policy of “no houseguests allowed,” however this season he may bend the rules.

Haas does not reveal if this means Severide will have a love interest or a new friend move into his place, but many are hoping for a love story.

In season five, Severide falls in love with a cancer patient, who he donates his bone marrow to, but unfortunately it doesn’t last.
