The photo shows Naomi Coto holding her dog, Simba, on her shoulders after being forced to evacuate her Houston home on Sunday. The picture illustrates the lengths at which many pet owners in the area have gone to save their pets.

Houston Locals Save Colony of Bats
Houston residents managed to save a colony of bats from drowning. The animals made their home at the top of a bridge, but the water level reached so high that it threatened their lives.

The bats were rescued from the Waugh Bridge which is home to an estimated 250,000 Mexican free-tailed bats, according to CBS.
Not only was it an honorable act for the Houston residents to save the bats, but also it is in the interest of the ecosystem to save the animals. On a nightly basis, about two and a half ton of insects are eaten by the creatures.
“Take away those bats, you’re going to be in big trouble,” Michelle Camara, the owner of Bat World Alama said.
Harvey the Hurricane Hawk
One of the viral videos that are circulating on the Internet shows a hawk, who has been dubbed Harvey the Hurricane Hawk, flying into a Houston cab driver vehicle to escape the storm.

The bird had nowhere to land and ended up in the passenger’s seat of Bruso’sย car. The driver attempted to shoo away the hawk, but it refused to leave.
“He looks like he’s scared. He doesn’t know what’s going on,” Brusoย said in one of his YouTube videos documenting the surprise visit. “He just kind of hopped on in and doesn’t want to leave. I’m not sure what to make of it.”
Bruso then took the bird inside his home and fed it chicken hearts. Harvey the hawk has since been placed with a licensedย rehabilitator,ย Huffington Post reports.

Kevin Hart Donates Money to Hurricane Relief
The comedian initiated a relief challenge on social media. The Ride Along star started by revealing that he was donating $25,000 and challenged famous friends โ including Dwayne Johnson, Beyoncรฉย and Justin Timberlakeย โ to do the same.
“Help me help Houston,” Hart wrote.
He also started a Crowdriseย campaign to raise funds and has helped bring in over $600,000 so far.
Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles Start Crowdfunding Campaign
Padalecki and Ackles, the stars of The CW’sย Supernatural,ย started a Crowdrise campaign to help raise funds for the relief efforts.
The actors, who both hail from Texas, have raisedย over $160,000 at this point.
“I wish I was down there helping people and pulling people off of roofs in a boat right now but I’m not, this is what I can do,” Acklesย said in an Instagramย video posted Monday. “So thank you very much, on behalf of myself and my family and all those in Texas.”
