Here’s the Most Controversial Moment in ‘Teen Mom’ History

The cast members of the Teen Mom franchise have provided fans with a countless number of controversial moments over the years.

One of the most dramatic moments to come out of the MTV series was when Farrah Abraham released her sex tape.

Abraham was heavily criticized for venturing into porn when she released Farrah Superstar: Backdoor Teen Mom in 2013. At first, Abraham tried to spin the sex tape as a leaked private video meant for personal use.

However, she released the sequel, Farrah 2: Backdoor and More, which featured unseen footage from the first film, the following year.

Amber Portwood Goes to Jail

Amber Portwood made a controversial decision in June 2012 when she choose a five-year prison sentence over joining a court-mandated rehab program.

The mother of one, who struggled with drug abuse, chose to go to jail for an important reason. She told PEOPLE after her release that the “only thing I could see happening to me if I [hadn’t gone] to prison is I would have died. I would have overdosed. When you’re an addict you know what your bottom is.” 

She needed to get sober to herself and her daughter Leah.

Ryan Edwards Drives While Under the Influence

This was one of the latest controversies to hit the Teen Mom franchise.

Maci Bookout’s ex Ryan Edwards was caught driving under the influence during the sixth season finale of Teen Mom OG. Edwards was driving his soon-to-be wife Mackenzie Standifer to their wedding ceremony when this occurred. There was a camera filming the couple in the car, which showed Edwards falling asleep behind the wheel.

At one point, Standifer had to grab the steering wheel from him so they didn’t veer off the road.

She accused him of taking Xanax in the car, but he denied it. Edwards entered rehab shortly after the episode aired.

Jenelle Evans’ Run-Ins With the Law

Jenelle Evans has struggled with the law throughout her years on Teen Mom.

The Teen Mom 2 cast member was previously arrested for alleged domestic violence against a former boyfriend, drug possession and violating parole.

In addition, Evans has been in a public custody battle with her mom Barbara Evans for years. Evans has made known she wants full custody of her seven-year-old son Jace.

The two have been on a custodial schedule for a while now that allows Evans to spend more time with Jace.

Kailyn Lowry’s Third Pregnancy

Another recent controversy stems from Kailyn Lowry‘s third pregnancy.

The Teen Mom 2 cast member, who recently welcomed her third son, kept the identity of her newborn child’s father a secret for quite some time.

Months after she announced her pregnancy, Lowry revealed that Chris Lopez was the father of her baby.

She responded to the rumors that Lopez was the baby daddy in a tweet, writing, “Ancestry DNA & yeah he is… stop with the headlines already.”

Lowry is already a mother to 7-year-old son Isaac, with her ex-boyfriend Jo Rivera, and son Lincoln, 3, who she shares with ex-husband Javi Marroquin.
