Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is arguably one of the biggest powerhouses in Hollywood, literally and physically.

This man does it all and everyone loves him!

From his humble beginnings playing on the football team at Freedom High School in Pennsylvania, moving onto college football at University of Miami, and eventually landing himself at the top of the food chain in WWE professional wrestling.

Can you SMELL what The Rock is COOKING?

Now you can’t turn your head without seeing him somewhere – movies, television series, WWE, his very active social media accounts, and news of any project he’s involved he may or not be involved with.

After all, he is The People’s Champ!

We can’t deny that he had some series flops when he began is acting career, but he has worked hard to get to the top, as one of the best action stars and animated demigods (Disney’s Moana) in the game.

With upcoming movies like Moana, Baywatch, Jumanji, Rampage, The Janson Directive, Shazam, Doc Savage, and of course, many sequels he is not going anywhere, anytime soon.

Let’s take a look at The Rocks Top 5 movies so far…

The Game Plan

Disney’s The Game Plan from 2007 proved that Dwayne Johnson could be family friendly.

It was the very last movie that he used the name “The Rock” as well.

Directed by directed by Andy Fickman, the movie followed a big shot NFL player living the party life when a little 8-year-old girl was dropped off on his bachelor pad’s doorstep.

Turns on, he had a daughter he didn’t know about. Although the movie didn’t get amazing reviews, watching Dwayne Johnson’s hot shot character Joe Kingman take on fatherhood for the first time and without any experience is both hilarious and heartfelt.

Even though his PR people thought having a daughter would look bad for his image, the football star embraced her anyway. Awwww.

And really…is there anything better than seeing Dwayne Johnson twirling around in a tutu?

Of course, he went on to make other Disney films as well like The Tooth Fairy and Race To Witch Mountain, but they didn’t make it on this list. 

Gridiron Gang

If you didn’t cry tears of joy at the end of The Gridiron Gang, then you must have watched the wrong movie.

This is a true tale of at-risk youth gang members overcoming discrimination and finding success through hope and hard work, all taught to them the hard way by their new football coach.

The 2006 movie is loosely based on the true story of the Kilpatrick Mustangs during the 1990 season.

A counselor (The Rock) at a juvenile detention facility decides to turn the young inmates in his charge into a football team to give them a sense of self-respect and social responsibility, but he faces opposition from high-school coaches who do not want their players facing criminals on the field.

He also gave a rather inspiring speech:

“You do it my way, not your way. Your way got you here and you’re here because you lost. Right now you are all losers, but if you accept this challenge and stick with the program, you are all going to be winners at the end.”

 

Walking Tall

Yeah, yeah, yeah! we know that Walking Tall (2004) is a remake of the beloved 1973 classic of the same name.

Both films are based on the real-life story of Sheriff Buford Pusser and utilized many elements from his life. However, a few things were changed including the main character’s name and the setting was moved from McNairy County, Tennessee to Kitsap County, Washington, United States.

When decorated military officer Chris Vaughn (The Rock) returns to his hometown in the state of Washington to find work, he finds that the lumber mill has closed, and the town’s big business is now a seedy casino operated by one of his old schoolmates, Jay Hamilton (Neal McDonough).

Aided by his loyal friend Ray Templeton (Johnny Knoxville), Vaughn tries to make a stand against the area’s crime and corruption, but, finding no help from the police, he must take matters into his own hands.

In short, The Rock hands out his own version of justice to the people that deserve it the most, all while using a huge piece of wood to smash everything in sight.

It might not have done well with critics, but at its core Walking Tall is a simplistic, entertaining action film starring an underdog who comes out on top.

We happen to like heroes around here who stand up for themselves!

 

Central Intelligence

Some might think that buddy cop comedies are played out, but Central Intelligence proved otherwise this past summer.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart created the strangest crime fighting duo we have ever seen, even more so than The Other Guys, which The Rock also starred in.

It was enough to make the audience laugh out loud at fanny packs, unicorn shirts, jorts, and overly awkward moments, while giving us unexpected twists and turns at the same time.

Bullied as a teen for being overweight, Bob Stone (Dwayne Johnson) shows up to his high school reunion looking fit and muscular. While there, he finds Calvin Joyner (Kevin Hart), a fast-talking accountant who misses his glory days as a popular athlete.

Stone is now a lethal CIA agent who needs Calvin’s number skills to help him save the compromised U.S. spy satellite system. Together, the former classmates encounter shootouts, espionage and double-crosses while trying to prevent worldwide chaos.

Also, we finally get to see The Rock naked…

 

Furious 7

Officer Luke Hobbs (The Rock) joined the “Fast Fam” in previous films in the franchise, however he shined a bit more in Furious 7 because he wasn’t trying to capture and kill Dominic Toretto and the team.

By this point, Hobbs was pals with Dom, and they teamed up to stop the bad guy – Jason Statham’s relentless character.

Dwayne Johnson also pulls his best stunt yet in Furious 7. While in the hospital he straight flexes out a cast that’s on his broken arm. If that isn’t the coolest thing you’ve seen, we don’t know what is.

After defeating international terrorist Owen Shaw, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) and the rest of the crew have separated to return to more normal lives. However, Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), Owen’s older brother, is thirsty for revenge.

A slick government agent (Kurt Russel) offers to help Dom and company take care of Shaw in exchange for their help in rescuing a kidnapped computer hacker who has developed a powerful surveillance program.

Paul Walker died during filming Furious 7, the entire cast and crew dedicated the film to him. And while it’s sad that O’ Conner is gone, we fully expect Hobbs to step up to be Toretto’s right hand man in Fast 8.

He also dug Vin Diesel out from under a huge pile of heavy “rocks” and saved his life. That, right there, deserves an Oscar.
