When we think of cute animals, never does anything in the dark depths of the sea come to mind. Typically, it’s dogs, cats or maybe hamsters (yes, I like hamsters), but little baby squids? Steal my heart!
The E/V Nautilus team spotted this Stubby Squid (Rossia Pacifica) off the coast of California at a depth of almost 3,000 feet. That’s not James Cameron deep, but it is definitely in the depths. But who would have thought a squid this far down could be so cute?

The sea animal is actually a hybrid between a squid and an octopus, as one marine biologist notes in the video, the tentacles stem from its head. These little guys burrow down in the ocean floor with only their big eyes on the surface looking upwards. This is how they camouflage themselves to spot prey.
It doesn’t get much cuter than the Stubby Squid. I’d definitely want him in my fish tank at home.
