The recent trend of the big movie studios doing remakes is not slowing down any time soon. The next film up being given another go-around is 1988 classic comedy film Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. 36-year-old Pitch Perfect actress Rebel Wilson is attached to star in the remake being developed by MGM.
The original movie featuring Steve Martin and Michael Caine portraying two titular con artists was actually a remake itself, based on 1964 film Bedtime Story starring Marlon Brando and David Niven. Michael Caine’s portrayal of Lawrence Jameison received a Golden Globe nomination, and the film is widely acknowledged as one of Steve Martin’s best films during his dominance of 1980’s comedy.

According to Empire Online, “the story will follow two female grifters, one who is cultured, the other uncouth, who compete to swindle a naive tech prodigy out of his fortune.”
Rebel Wilson is the only actress attached to the film as of now. The actress was last seen in How to Be Single with Dakota Johnson and Leslie Mann, and in Grimsby with Sacha Baron Cohen. Wilson is also attached to another remake of the Goldie Hawn movie Private Benjamin, according to Variety.
The Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake does not have a director yet, but the script will be penned by TiMER‘s Jac Schaeffer. The screenwriter most recently wrote sci-fi action flick The Shower, with Anne Hathaway lined up to star.
Rebel Wilson will be producing the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake alongside Roger Birnbaum of Pin High Productions. Wilson is repped by WME and Creative Representation out of Australia.
