The 14-year-old girl did not sustain any injuries from the incident on Saturday. She was riding the “Sky Ride” at Six Flags Great Escape in Queensbury, New York, when she slipped out of the chair.
The video, which can be seen below, shows her body dangling from the ride and it appears that her neck initially got stuck in the gondola. Once she was able to untangle herself, she dropped to safety.
Someone in the crowd can be heard encouraging her to fall, yelling, “We’ll catch you honey!”
The footage shows her hitting a tree as she falls, but the crowd erupts in cheers when she is caught. Emergency medical services were on the scene to transport her to a local hospital. She is in stable condition with no serious injuries.
Authorities said a 47-year-old man was hospitalized after he hurt his back trying to catch the girl, but has since been released.
The Warren County Sheriff’s office said personnel inspected the ride and confirmed it was working properly. The park remains closed for an internal review.
“We are in the process of gathering more information,” Six Flags Queensbury said in a statement. “The safety and security of our guests is our top priority and our thoughts and prayers are with our guest and her family.”
