William Maillis should be in fifth grade, but instead, he has graduated high school and started taking college classes. He is nine years old and wants to work as an astrophysicist.
Instead of spending his time in fourth grade learning division and playing with friends during recess, William has been spending his time developing theories about the universe and how it was created. Instead of just attending his fourth grade classes, he spent the last school year taking high school and college courses as well. At the end of the year, he officially graduated from high school.

This school year, William has decided to take a full course load of classes at Community College of Allegheny County, so he can simply ease into the life of a college student. And though he may only be nine years old, he doesn’t seem to have a problem with his unique life.
“It doesn’t bother me,” he said when asked if being the youngest student in class was a problem. “I’m used to it by now.”
As it turns out, William has always been advanced compared to his peers. According to his mother, Nancy, he was able to identify numbers at 6 months, speak in full and complete sentences at 7 months, he was even able to do addition at a year and a half, and read and write at 2 years old. What’s more, he could do algebra, sign language, and read Greek at age 4.
According to a college psychologist who studies “whiz kids“, William is “pure genius” and he wants to use his unique abilities to help the world. He hopes to become an astrophysicist and study how the universe was created. He hopes that he can someday prove that God exists. Until then, he does just as his father says, and doesn’t waste his talent.
