On Sunday morning in Croton, New York, Army cornerback Brandon Jackson passed away in a single-car crash.
The 20-year-old Army football player died only hours after starting in Army’s victory on the field over Rice on Saturday. Jackson, who hails from Queens, New York, appeared in every game as a freshman in 2015 and was showing glimpses of a promising upcoming season this year with six tackles and two pass breakups already.

At 1:50 a.m. on Sunday, the police received a call in regards to a motor vehicle crash, according to Croton-on-Hudson police Detective Sgt. John Nikitopoulos. Upon arriving at the scene of the wreck, the authorities saw a single car had crashed into the guardrail. When the responders arrived, the driver was still in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to ESPN.
His coach, Jeff Monken said in a statement: “Words cannot describe the grief that our team is feeling over the loss of our brother and friend, Brandon. He was a beloved teammate and our hearts are with his family at this time of tragedy.”
The superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy, Lt. Gen. Robert L. Caslen, wrote in a letter to the community of West Point. “We will honor his life as we mourn the untimely death of a young man who had a promising future as a leader in service to our Nation. Brandon internalized our watch words, Duty, Honor, Country.”
Several of Jackson’s Army teammates posted their reactions on Sunday night after hearing the news of the tragic accident. Army player James D. Gibson III wrote on Instagram, “Life is a delicate thing…My eyes are dried from crying because I lost my brother. I will miss you it’s hard to even believe you are gone we were just kickin it yesterday and gettin that W on the field. Although you are in a better place now I wish you were here with us. I want to tell you I love you and just bulls**t like we always do. #Forever28 Brandon Terrell Jackson.”

Another teammate of Jackson’s, Gervon Q. Simon tweeted a picture of Jackson with the caption: “I still can’t believe the news we received this afternoon. We all love you bro. RIP Brandon Action Jackson #BJack.”
