Aaron Carter‘s Friday night show took a dramatic turn when the singer was attacked while on stage over alleged racist remarks he made towards his opening act.

The “Fool’s Gold” singer was playing a set at Looney Bin, in Bradley, Illinois when the altercation broke out. According to TMZ, things came to a head after Carter requested a member of opening band, Ill State, be escorted out since he was “was goofing, grabbing people’s cellphones and shooting video as Aaron tried to perform.”

Carter then said, “Bye, Felipe,” a twist on the slang term “Bye, Felicia.”

Someone jumped on stage at that point and punched the former child star.

In a video posted to YouTubeย by the other musical group,ย there is a skirmish on stage before security breaks up the fight.ย 

As news of the incident broke, Carter took to social media to give fans more information and defend his part in the events that unfolded.ย

He defended himself against accusations that he had any ill intent, before sharing a photo of himself recovering from the attack.ย

The singer cancelled more shows in the area in response, apologizing to fans.
