Missing University of Wisconsin-Madison student Beau Solomon, 20, has been found dead.

After disappearing mere hours after arriving in Rome, Italy, for a study-abroad program last Thursday, Solomon's body was pulled from the Tiber River in the Italian capital Monday.

John Cabot University, where Solomon was expected to take summer courses, has since released a statement: "John Cabot University is deeply saddened to announce that the body of Beau Solomon, the missing American visiting student, has been found in the Tiber River. We express our most heartfelt condolences to the Solomon family and to all those who loved Beau," PEOPLE reports.

Solomon's roommate reported him missing Friday, after he apparently failed to return from a night out. "The University was alerted by his roommate who reported that he had lost contact with Beau around 1:00 am on Thursday night while together at a pub in Rome, and was worried when he did not see Beau at orientation that morning," the statement further confirmed.

The small liberal arts college then "alerted the Italian law enforcement authorities, providing them with all the information in its possession," the statement continued. "John Cabot University also informed the American Embassy and the student's home school, which notified the family." His parents flew in to further aid their son's case.

Solomon's credit card was used 355 miles away in Milan, Italy, where someone racked up thousands of dollars worth of purchases.

The personal finance major had just finished his first year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, after having previously attended two other colleges.

Our sincere prayers are with Beau's family and friends. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
