90-Year-Old Woman Killed in Alligator-Related Incident in South Carolina

The death of a 90-year-old woman from South Carolina has been determined to be alligator-related, ABC News reports.

The woman's body was recovered from a pond near her the Brookdale Senior Living Center by Department of Natural Resources workers Friday morning. The woman, Bonnie Walker, was found with marks consistent with injuries caused by an alligator.

Coroner Rae Wooten said Friday that Walker's cause of death was "multiple sharp and blunt force injuries."

Investigators believe Walker left the assisted living facility, fell into the pond and attracted the attention of an alligator. Her body was discovered hours after she went missing, and a large alligator was reportedly removed from the pond by workers later that morning, Inside Edition reports.

"Our investigation has confirmed that an alligator was involved in the decedent's death," Wooten said in a statement."There is no indication of an "attack," but rather it is likely that the decedent slipped, fell down a steep embankment, or otherwise landed in the water, attracting the attention of the alligator."

Walker's death is believed to be the first alligator related fatality in South Carolina's history.
