Gene Wilder's Young Frankenstein Will Return To Theaters For One Night

On Tuesday, Fathom Events and 20th Century Fox announced that Young Frankenstein starring Gene Wilder will be coming back to theaters for a special, one-night-only event.

More than 500 theaters across the nation will be showing the movie with a live introduction by the film's director, Mel Brooks. The legendary filmmaker will pay tribute to the movie's late star, Wilder, and also give a tour of the Twentieth Century Fox lot where the film was made.

In addition to Young Frankenstein, Brooks collaborated with Gene Wilder on several films including Blazing Saddles and The Producers. However, the 1974 comedy-horror film has significant meaning and holds a special place in Brooks' heart.

In 2007, Brooks told EW: "I hate actors. But [on Young Frankenstein] I had lunch with them every day, because I liked that cast so much, between Madeline Kahn, and Teri Garr, Marty Feldman, and Gene, Peter Boyle. We had a magnificent company of players. I felt like an old-fashioned English theater manager taking a cast out into the country."

Gene Wilder died in August after suffering from complications as a result of Alzheimer's disease. Wilder was 83 years old when he passed away.

Also, another celebration of the the classic film will take form in an illustrated book with a foreword by Judd Apatow. The book, titled Young Frankenstein: A Mel Brooks Book: The Making of the Film, and is published by Black Dog & Leventhal, will arrive on October 18.

The screenings for Young Frankenstein begin at 8 p.m. ET on October 5. Tickets for Young Frankenstein are available for purchase on the Fathom Events website.
