A baby deer found itself in a troubling predicament when the recent floodwaters arose in Iowa.

The young deer was barely able to keep its head above water as it was bobbing along the fast-moving river. For seconds at a time it would disappear completely under the strong currents.

On a bridge nearby, onlookers watched the heartwrenching scene. One lady phoned the police to report the ordeal, but the authorities claimed that there was nothing they could do to save the deer. Either the deer would have to swim to shore on its own, or drown in the floodwaters.

Eventually the deer got stuck against the bridge, and the people watching knew that it would not be able to swim its way out. The deer appeared to be begging the bystanders to intervene as it stared up at them with a frightened expression.

The police were unable to assist, and the deer was wearing out from exhaustion. Luckily for this poor deer, two men decided to take action.

Two brave men crafted a make-shift harness to lower a man wearing a life vest down into the river. Once he was dropped into the water, the man tied up the deer to the harness and it was hoisted up to safety.

"Hey, don't forget about me!" the man in the water humorously shouted.

One of the men who helped lift the deer to safety, Jamod Sallis stated, "To come together and to be able to save wildlife. You know, it's a lot of animals who won't be able to make it through this flood. So we're able to help an animal and that feels pretty good."

Once the deer was lifted to safety, the rescuers decided that the best thing to do for the deer was to release it into the woods far away from the dangerous floodwaters that trapped it.
