Revered actor Roger Moore died on Monday morning after a battle with cancer. When his passing was announced on Monday, numerous friends and peers took to social media to share their condolences.

The late actor, who was 89 at the time of his passing, was best known for his tenure as James Bond. He appeared in some of the character’s finest films, including The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun and Octopussy.

The actor’s death hit especially hard for some, as many are still reeling from the Manchester Arena bombing that took many lives overnight.

“Oh no. As if today wasn’t already sad enough,” Piers Morgan tweeted. “RIP Sir Roger Moore, 89. A wonderful actor & lovely man.”

“Roger Moore was a good man and his sad death today should be front page news tomorrow, sadly it won’t be,” said TV personality Kirstie Allsopp.

Some of Hollywood’s finest actors shared their thoughts and memories of Moore throughout the morning.

Actor Russell Crowe shared a simple sentiment saying, he “loved him.”

Few are as kind & giving as was Roger Moore,” Mia Farrow said, touching on the actor’s charitable nature. “Loving thoughts (with) his family & friends. He will be missed too by UNICEF.”

Moore’s legendary performances not only impacted actors, but directors as well. Filmmakers such as Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) and James Wan (Furious 7, Saw) spoke out about what Moore’s career meant to them.

“RIP Sir Roger Moore. My first Bond and one of the first actors that I loved as a kid,” Wright said. “And a lovely, funny, warm person to boot. Farewell.”

“The car that turned into a sub in The Spy Who Loved Me blew my mind as a kid,” Wan said. “RIP Sir Roger Moore.”

Family members of Moore also shared their thoughts.

“My dearest uncle Roger has passed on,” shared English actor Michael Ball. “What a sad, sad day this is. Loved the bones of him. Generous, funny, beautiful and kind.”

Moore’s direct family also issued a statement on his passing, letting fans know his battle with cancer was “short but brave” and that he was surrounded by his loved ones in his final moments.

Even those who never knew the late actor personally were affected by his unexpected death.

“And now the news that #RogerMoore has passed,” English action star Scott Adkins said. “You inspired many and a thoroughly decent chap from what I hear. RIP”

“Very sad news. Roger Moore passed away at the age of 89,” producer Scott Mantz said. “He was my favorite #JamesBond”

More tributes to Moore are expected during Cannes Film Festival events on Tuesday.
