Celebrities… they’re just regular people. They pump gas, they eat fast food, and sometimes they encounter mythological creatures in the woods. Take Rob Lowe, for example.

Lowe and his sons have a new show coming out soon on A&E titled The Lowe Files, and, per an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lowe claims that while filming for the show they encountered Bigfoot.

The former Parks and Rec star recounted a little bit of the story, saying that it happened in the Ozark mountains which run through Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma.

He explained that they “had an incredible encounter with what locals call the wood ape,” and when asked if he was scared during the encounter, Lowe replied, “I was lying on the ground thinking I was going to be killed.”

When asked what exactly a “wood ape” is, Lowe elaborated, saying, “A wood ape is the local vernacular for a Sasquatch or a Bigfoot.”

He then went on to talk about why it’s important to them to call the paranormal entities they encounter by their folklore names.

“This is what I love about our show. We have fun with all of this,” Lowe said. “We hit the bullseye between true believer and skeptic in a fun way. [The locals] talk to you about the wood ape in all seriousness. If you call it a Bigfoot or a Sasquatch, they roll their eyesโ€ฆ as if that makes it less outrageous.”

Sadly, though, we’ll have to wait until the end of the season to see the “wood ape” episode, as Lowe revealed, “…the wood ape is in the one-hour season finale.”

The Lowe Files, which Rob describes as “Anthony Bourdain in a blender with Scooby Doo,” will run for nine episodes, with the first one premiering Wednesday, Aug. 2nd, on A&E.
