Jim Carrey and his previous relationship with the late Cathriona White has been under a lot of scrutiny lately. White’s estranged husband, Mark Burton, has since filed a lawsuit against Carrey claiming wrongful death, according to Us Weekly. But recent photos have surfaced of Carrey and White that tell a different story than what has been published lately.
The new images released are of Carrey and White spending Valentine’s Day together back in 2013. The two are pictured kissing and sitting together at a romantically decorated table. There are even photos of the gifts they purchased for each other. It’s clear that the two loved each other.
The photos, however, also show that White’s January 2013 marriage to Mark Burton wasn’t quite what Burton claims in his lawsuit. Even at the time of her death, Burton and White were separated.
“The undisputed fact is that Mark Burton had a sham marriage and is a ‘green card’ husband, and the Valentine’s Day photos prove it,” Martin Singer, Carrey’s lawyer said. “The photos were taken less than 30 days after the Vegas ‘wedding.’ [Burton’s Lawyer] Mr. Avenatti’s statements are defamatory. He is trying to deflect from the fact that his client has no right to sue by sending to the media carefully edited texts with significant redactions.”
Carrey is taking the high ground in this case. He has decided to defend his honor by standing up against Burton’s claims rather than sitting in a room with Burton’s lawyer and “make this go away.” He says that sometimes you have to “defend your honor against the evil in this world.”
“I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved,” Carrey said.0comments
Though at the time of her death, Carrey and White were not together, she did mention him and their relationship in her suicide note. She said that Carrey was her family and that she was sorry for what she was about to do, she just was not for this world.
“Cat’s troubles were long before I met her, and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone’s control,” Carrey continued. “I really hope someday soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace.”
