Kesha is finally making her return to the music world, having already released her latest single, “Praying,” and announcing that her album, Rainbow, will be released on August 11.

In a new interview with the Zach Sang Show, the singer-songwriter revealed that she got some inspiration for her new project from a rather unusual source, explaining that a UFO sighting gave her a bit of extraterrestrial influence.

“I was in Joshua Tree, totally sober,” she said. “Let me preface โ€“ completely fโ€”ing sober. I think people would be like ‘She was on acid’ or something. I wasn’t. I was on nothing. I was a totally sober Sally, just a lady in the desert.

“I look up in the sky and there’s a bunch of spaceships,” Kesha continued. “I swear to God, there were like five to seven and I don’t know why I didn’t, like, try to take a picture of it. I just looked at it. I was sitting on a rock and I was like, ‘What in the hell is that?’ I was trying to figure it out and then they went away. And then they came back.”

“They came back in a different formation than the one they were in previously,” she added. “I was like, “Those are fโ€”ing aliens.’ They were spaceships!”

It’s clear the sighting had an effect on the singer, as a track on her new album is called “Spaceship” and the album artwork also includes several of the extraterrestrial vehicles.

“Praying” is Kesha’s first solo single since her legal battle with producer Dr. Luke.
