Once the most successful child actor of all time, blockbuster star Macauley Culkin has opened up to reveal details of his personal life in the first big interview he’s given in 10 years.

After a tumultuous start to adulthood filled with tabloid rumors such as stories of Culkin dating Mila Kunis and rumors of excessive heroin abuse, Culkin is now living the most chill lifestyle of any 35-year-old out there. He’s most recently made several appearances in small indie films such as Party Monster and Saved as well as his side project band The Pizza Underground, but now is happy with this different phase of his career.

“People feel they have to be in perpetual motion, or drown. I’ve never had a problem saying I’ve got nothing lined up. Maybe I’ll take next year off,” Culkin told The Guardian’s Rhik Samadder. “I’m not much active. If I knew what I wanted to do, I’d be writing it myself.”

While Culkin’s publicists did not allow him to dish on details of his childhood, such as past films or his relationship with the late King of Pop Michael Jackson, he did talk about other things such as the paparazzi and maintaining an adult life. Culkin’s publicists were very adamant about only discussing topics that would paint Culkin in a positive light.

One topic Culkin dished about was avoiding the press. Culkin stated: “I just don’t turn my back, I actively don’t want it. The paps go after me because I don’t whore myself out.” He continued stating, “I was thinking about this the other day – I’d crossed the wrong street, picked up a tail, suddenly there’s a crush of 20 paparazzi. Then people with camera phones get involved. I don’t think I’m worthy of that.”

He also addressed drug rumors by saying: “I was not pounding six grand of heroin every month or whatever. The thing that bugged me was tabloids wrapping it all in this weird guise of concern. No, you’re trying to shift papers.”

Culkin also mentioned that he is now trying to “figure out what makes me happy – and not in a superficial way.” As he is trying to figure out what makes him happy, his publicists are trying to figure out how they can get the former child star back into the spotlight.

Maybe we will be seeing more of Macauley Culkin in the future on screen, but as for now he seems entirely content with his life at the moment.
