War Machine

In this Netflix original flick, Pitt plays a U.S. General who rises to command NATO forces in Afghanistan before helping to bring about his own downfall. The film is inspired by the book The Operators: The Wild & Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan by late journalist Michael Hastings.

Burn After Reading

This comedic drama tells the story of two gym employees who discover the memoir of an ousted CIA official. The pair attempts to use the information to their advantage and make some money, but things predictably go awry.

Inglorious Basterds

Quentin Tarantino’s World War II film tells the story of two plots to assassinate Nazi officials, one by French theater owner Shosanna Dreyfus and the other by a team of soldiers led by led by First Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Pitt). The film was nominated for eight Academy Awards.

Babel

This ensemble drama follows four sets of characters in Morocco, Japan, Mexico and the U.S. who are all impacted by an incident involving an American couple in Morocco. The cast includes an American tourist couple (Pitt and Cate Blanchett), two Moroccan boys, a nanny illegally crossing into Mexico with two American children, and a Japanese teenager.

A Stoning in Fulham County

One of Pitt’s earlier films, this 1988 flick tells the story of an Amish couple who was ostracized from their community. After a group of teens throws stones at them, killing their infant daughter, the couple does not want to press charges, so a local prosecutor attempts to get them to change their minds and speak out.

The Big Short

Starring an A-list cast that includes Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale and Steve Carell, The Big Short depicts three different stories related to the 2007-2008 financial crisis, with the characters seeking to profit financially from the unstable housing market. The film is noted for the unconventional methods it employs to explain complex financial issues to the viewer.
