In the hyperbolic build up to the McGregor/Mayweather super fight, many minds believed the fighters were doing their best WWE imitation. Both Mayweather and McGregor seemed keenly aware that a flamboyant personality was key in garnering intrigue. While Floyd’s career appears to be over, could McGregors pro-wrestling emulation become a reality?
According to Chris Jericho, McGregor’s arrival in WWE is all too natural. In an interview with Sports Illustrated Now, Y2J discussed “The Notorious” McGregor’s WWE potential. In fact, he told Vince McMahon that the super fight should have been on WWE turf.

“Vince, why didn’t you promote Mayweather vs. Jericho? We could’ve made $700 million. But Conor’s very smart and that was a great fight with the perfect finish for it. You knew Floyd would win but Conor did a great job. It ended the way it should’ve, you needed to call it off,” Jericho said.
“But Conor comes out of it looking like 100 million bucks, and Floyd retires 50-0. So will Conor McGregor end up in WWE? I think it’s a no-brainer. It might not be this year or the year after that because there’s a lot of money that you got to spend to get him in there, but a guy that yappy that knows the concept of cutting a wrestling promo โ same with Floyd,” he added.
“That’s why Floyd did WWE, because he got a lot of his stuff from WWE ideas – so I think Conor will end up there. It’s just a matter of when he wants to. I also think Ronda Rousey will end up there one way or another as well,” he continued.
It’s hard to misinterpret those words. Could we actually see McGregor in WWE one day? It seems unlikely, but that may just be temporary. After the biggest pay day of his life, McGregor will likely be after similar chunks of cash. Like Jericho mentioned, McGregor’s WWE debut would be dependent on price. That said, he doesn’t have to be a regular employee โ Mcgregor and WWE could cash-in nicely just in one appearance.
So far the closest McGregor has gotten to WWE was a twitter war with most of the roster. While it was amusing, nothing tangible manifested. However, for someone like Ronda Rousey, a WWE appearance could only be a few months away.
The MMA star has allegedly begun training to become professional wrestles with rumors already swirling about a potential November showing in WWE.
The lines between UFC and WWE continue to blur with the likes of Brock Lesnar and Jon Jones. It appears they may be on the verge of creating a symbiotic relationship.
