Is Kevin Can Wait part of the King of Queens cinematic universe?

Observant audiences may have noticed that Kevin Can Wait has hinted at the idea that the show takes place after the films Paul Blart: Mall Cop and Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, both starring James.

The theory is that Blartย was devastated by his experiences as a mall cop and following his recent divorce. In an effort to change his life, Blartย then joins the Long Island PD and changes his identity to Kevin Gable. While this theory has not been confirmed, many fans accept it as such.

In Season 1, fans may remember that the finale, which was titledย “Sting of Queens,”ย ended with Donna (Erinn Hayes) losing her job as Kevin was pulled back to the force to help capture an art forger. His forced employment hints at the idea that Kevin may not have a bright future in his career.

Without his wife’s steady income, Kevin begins to have money struggles. He is then forced to take a job as a deliveryman. Then after remarrying, he lives with his wife’s eccentric father. Sound familiar?

This theory suggests that Kevin Can Wait is a prequel to King of Queens.

Further evidence to support this claim is that Kevin’s onscreen wife from King of Queens, Leah Remini, just signed on to be a series regular on Kevin Can Waitย as a detective who works with Gable. It’s possible that this was how their relationship started prior to the time at which King of Queens began.

Is season 2 an allegory for Remini’s departure from the Church of Scientology?

Remini joining the cast of Kevin Can Wait is the first high profile gig that she has lined up since making an A&E Scientology tell-all series, Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath.

Now that the 47-year-old actress is no longer a part of the Church of Scientology, some fans are theorizing that the CBS sitcom will use its reach to convey the hidden story of her escape, according to Deadspin.

After Season 1, Kevin rejoins the force to team up with Remini’s character, Vanessa Cellucci. The two tackle a case involving an art dealer, and one fan theory suggests that the pair will chase down leads all the way to the top where they make shocking discoveries. The theory says that they learn of a shady businessman who controls access to Metsย fantasy camp tickets and only gives them to the people that attend overly secretive seminars.

Either Gable or Cellucciย may be forced to go undercover and eventually escape the grips of the businessman and expose his ways to the world.

Is Kevin’s son-in-law a ghost too?

The first season all but proved that Kevin’s daughter was the spirit of a girl in his life there to remind of the daughter that he abandoned after Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2.

His “daughter’s” British husband, Chale, appearing on the show could be another indicator that Kevin is being driven to the brink of insanity by the stress of ditching his former life as a mall cop. In Season 1, no other characters interacted with Chaleย except for Kevin and his new daughter.

Because Kevin is clearly being haunted by evil from the Spirit Realm, it’s possible that his son-in-law could be a ghost as well.
