Jennifer Aniston has been battling a condition she didn't even know she had.
In a recent interview with Glamour, the actress revealed that while she has long relied on eye drops, she didn't realize her addiction was actually a symptom of dry eye syndrome.
Aniston shared that she discovered that she had the condition about six month ago after talking about her use of eye drops in an interview.
"I was doing interviews and a question came up about whether I had anything I was addicted to," she explained. "I said ‘I actually have an addiction to eye drops.’ And like, as I was on the phone I’d had my third—in the hour!—dose. I had them with me all the time. I always thought, 'Oh, it must be the environment, or I must have allergies, or someone said maybe because you have wide eyes you’re more sensitive.'"
"When I said that in the interview, I was approached by Shire [a company that manufactures medication for the condition], and they said, ‘You probably have dry eye.’ I didn’t know that was something you could diagnose. So I went to my doctor and did the test and sure enough that’s what I have," Aniston continued. "You have to go through the weaning off of your eye drops and all of that, and then it was this wonderful relief."
The actress added that thanks to her diagnosis, her daily life has been impacted for the better.
"The best part is waking up every morning and not feeling like my eyes are glued shut!" she said. Instead, she wakes up, has a cup of coffee and heads to a workout class, adding that the older she gets, the more she is focused on what goes into her body.
"As I’ve gotten older there's just more awareness around what is good for my body internally, externally, physically," she explained. "My approach is just being conscious of everything."
