Have you ever ran across the airport only to get to your boarding gate and realize the plane has already left? Instead of dejectedly watching as the plane took off, one Ryanair passenger decided to run out onto the tarmac and flag it down in a bizarre series of events.
The video recently surfaced of one man in Spain leaping from the open gangway onto the tarmac after managing to bypass security at the Madrid-Barajas Airport. While dragging two bags with him, he stops momentarily at a baggage carrier vehicle. Maybe he was hoping to commandeer the vehicle to chase down the plane like Jim Carrey in “Liar Liar,” we don’t know.

He then gives up and begins to sprint towards the waiting plane where he was eventually stopped by the ground crew. Most amazing of all, the man was then able to board the plane bound for Spain’s Canary Islands, according to CNN.
Upon landing in Gran Canaria, the passenger was detained according to a spokesperson from the Spanish Civil Guard. While he is no longer being held, he will be tried in Gran Canaria.
The crazy video was posted by a ground crew member at the airport on the CC.OO. Ryanair and Lesma Handling (Madrid Airport Workers Union) Facebook page.
The post stated, “This particular passenger was missing a Ryanair flight and, unbelievably, skipped several security protocols established by AENA (the authority which deals with Madrid-Barajas airport).” Then mentioned, “We’re talking about level 4 security protocols! Not even with all those protocols we can feel safe.”
While the video may seem a bit humorous as the man was not dangerous, the situation does present a serious security threat that someone looking to do harm may be able to make it all the way to the tarmac as well.
The Madrid Airport Police have declined to comment on the incident.
How do you think this situation should be handled by the authorities?
