The first official trailer for Netflix’s The Crown is here, and it looks absolutely stunning. Then again, it probably should look incredible since the series is rumored to have cost the streaming service nearly $156 million to produce.
Netflix’s forthcoming drama is inspired by true events that centers on Queen Elizabeth II’s dramatic early years on the British throne. The storyline for the 10-episode series will begin in 1947, which was six years prior to Queen Elizabeth’s coronation.

“I am aware that I am surrounded by people who feel that they could do the job better,” states Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II in the epic trailer. “Strong people with powerful characters but, or better or worse, the crown has landed on my head.”
The Crown was created and written by Peter Morgan, and was based on the award-winning play “The Audience.” Morgan also is responsible for 2005 film The Queen that received vast critical acclaim on similar subject matter. The movie explored the later years of Elizabeth’s reign as Queen, and would go on to receive six Oscar nominations including a best actress Academy Award win for Helen Mirren in her portrayal of the title role.
The series was directed by Stephen Daldry (The Hours, Billy Elliot) with Andy Harries producing. The stars of the show include: Claire Foy (Queen Elizabeth II), Matt Smith (Prince Philip), Jared Harris (King George VI), Daniel Betts (Prince Ernst von Hannover), James Hiller (Patrick), Jeremy Northam (Anthony Eden), Victoria Hamilton (Queen Mother), and John Lithgow (Prime Minister Winston Churchill).
The streaming service reportedly has a six-year blueprint for the series, according to Harper’s Bazaar, and characters may even be re-cast as the storyline progresses through time.
The Crown will be available exclusively on Netflix on November 4.
