On Wednesday, July 20, Beverly Hills, 90210 alum Shannen Doherty shaved her head amid her ongoing battle with breast cancer. The 45-year-old actress posted pictures on her Instagram account to document the emotional process.
Doherty posted a series of black-and-white photos to show each of the six steps in cutting off her dark locks. The pictures show Doherty with her mother, Rosa Elizabeth Doherty, and friend, Anne Marie Kortright, helping Doherty throughout the process.

The Mallrats actress first revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in August in a lawsuit that she filed against her former business management firm, Tanner Mainstain, according to US Weekly. She claimed that her cancer spread because her health insurance did not give her the proper coverage. Doherty was then enrolled in the Screen Actors Guild’s insurance after previously being fired by the Mainstain firm and learning of her cancer.
Doherty revealed backed in February that she planned to remove the tumor. While on the The Dr. Oz Show the actress mentioned: “Ultimately, they’re just breasts, right? I mean, I love them, they’re mine, they’re beautiful, but in the grand scheme of things, I would rather be alive, and I would rather grow old with my husband.”
Dr. Oz discussed Doherty’s cancer and stated: “Thankfully, if we aggressively can treat it, we can save Shannen’s life, and her doctors are superb and they’re all over that decision.”
We commend Shannen Doherty for her bravery and for sharing part of the emotional process that so many women deal across the world deal with on a daily basis.
